Dave Matthews Band in Makati

I discovered today that Rustan's supermarket (at least in Greenbelt) sells fresh cut pineapple. Yum! It's just the right size to last you two or three days, and much more convenient than buying a whole pineapple and cutting it up yourself.

Last night I was at Coco Cabana listening to some friends play a couple of sets. They have an acoustic band (currently called Oz), featuring a singer, a keyboardist, a violinist, a guitarist, a saxophone player, and someone who plays a kahon (cajon?). If you're anywhere in the area, and you like Dave Matthews or U2 music, check them out:

* Thursday, May 27 at Old Manila Coffeeshop on Pasong Tamo Extension (across Nissan)

* June 5 and 19 at Coco Cabana on Kalayaan, near Rockwell

* June 12 at Soleil at Greenbelt 2.

The first set at Coco Cabana starts around 8 pm; at Soleil, around 9 or 9:30.

Disclaimer: I'm married to the saxophone player. :)

Is Coco Cobana nice? I'm thinking of celebrating my birthday there. :) I'm looking for a beachy sort of place.

Hi Kay,

Coco certainly has a beach feeling (no beach in sight, but the atmosphere is there). I think they have party packages where they'll close off part of the restaurant or outdoor area for you -- these include drinks and pretty hefty appetizer platters.

The manager's name is Barbie, you can ask for her when you inquire. Tell her you heard about Coco from the Still Oz band. :)

Cheers,
Ching
